Citizens for Ethical Campaigns unequivocally denounces the killing of Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis on January 24, 2026. We offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Alex. Once again, our hearts are with Minneapolis and its entire community.
We also denounce the untruthful, defamatory statements from the Trump Administration that he was a domestic terrorist. The malicious and outright lies surrounding the circumstances that led to his death attempt to create a false narrative of what actually occurred. As an organization whose mission is to fight disinformation and advocate for truth, we are again appalled and outraged at the blatant lies being spread.
We stand firmly against lies, disinformation, and defamation. We call for those responsible for the killings of both Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, and the false statements about them, to be held accountable.
In his book 1984, George Orwell wrote, “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
We must trust our eyes and ears and reject the lies that are circulating. As a collective, we must expose the falsehoods and uphold the truth. We ask that everyone condemn the lies and state the truth publicly. We also ask that you challenge the disinformation by gently correcting others who believe and repeat the misleading information. Be calm and specific, and refer to the videos and other primary sources of information. Remember that you’re not trying to win an argument or change their core beliefs—you’re attempting to help them understand and identify the fraud..
As George Orwell also said, “In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act.”
The truth matters. We must all uphold the truth in the face of the universal deceit we are encountering.
