Do you find yourself wondering how we have reached this degree of polarization in our national politics these days? What causes people to make decisions against their best interests?
Coach, Researcher, and Author Catherine Greer explored science-based theories to answer these questions at our Virtual Event “Polarization, Political Identity, and Ethics: The Psychology of Polarization.”
When we are out of balance between our Self, Human, and Group identities, we tend to lose ourselves by adopting group-approved behaviors and dehumanize others.
To counter polarization, we can reflect and identify our triggers, biases, and group affiliations. We can also scrutinize media and disengage from polarized sources. To decrease polarization in political campaigns, we can learn to identify unethical campaign tactics and psychological biases, and make a conscious effort to counter their effects.
