The Truth Matters. Defend the Truth.

Citizens for Ethical Campaigns unequivocally denounces the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an immigration agent in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. We offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Renee. Our hearts are with Minneapolis and its entire community.

We also denounce the untruthful, defamatory statements from the Trump Administration that she was attempting to run the agent over in an act of domestic terrorism. These malicious and outright lies attempt to create a false narrative of what actually occurred. As an organization whose mission is to fight disinformation and advocate for truth, we are appalled and outraged at the blatant lies being spread.

We stand firmly against lies, disinformation, and defamation. We call for those responsible for the killing of Renee Nicole Good and the false statements to be held accountable. We also call for a fair investigation in which Minnesota authorities are fully involved.

In the face of the existential threat that disinformation is posing to our democracy, we ask that everyone individually condemn the lies that are circulating. While we believe it is essential to exercise our First Amendment right to freedom of speech, we call for thoughtful, honest language, and peaceful demonstrations to demand justice and resist disinformation.

As Ida B. Wells-Barnett once said, “The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them.”

Facts matter. The truth matters. May we all be truth tellers in this moment of darkness.
